CONTEXT

IDS Social is a

web system aimed at municipalities

and cities that need to organize all the process of their

social assistance units

,

centralizing all the data and user’s records

, as well as their

attendance history

, participation in social programs and receipt of benefits. Users receive training just after the implantation of the software, and if necessary, they have access to a support center via telephone.

CHALLENGES

1.

Decrease/eliminate the huge flow of attendance of support service

due to doubts caused by problematic interactional flows and bad usability;
2.

Understand the whole attendance & monitoring process of social assistance

for identifying faulty points that cause misunderstanding, overlooked operations, and a lack of contextual functions during the use of the system;
3.

Identify difficulties and propose smart and proactive solutions to help the professionals in their social work.

RESEARCH

We started with a facing problem workshop, a general

understanding about social assistance in Brazil

,

ways of attendance

,

social programs

,

granting of benefits to users of the programs

, and then, we did a great field research at CRAS/CREAS. The research goal was to understand the whole attendance process directly with the staff and professionals working at the social center: Receptionist, secretary, social workers, psychologists, lawyers, pedagogues and social educators. Interviews and observations have brought many insights into how the process could be improved.
